SUMMER SCHOOL

This three-week international summer school offers an intensive exploration of Athens as both an ancient polis and a modern metropolis. Combining lectures, on-site classes, and field trips, the program invites participants to examine the city’s cultural and architectural evolution – from its classical foundations to its modern identity. Through 150 hours of guided instruction and fieldwork (5 ECTS), students gain an integrated understanding of Athens as a dynamic palimpsest of history, heritage, and urban life.

Throughout the program, each participant selects a topic for an individual or team research project, developed in consultation with the instructors. Topics may range from the transformation of public space or the reinterpretation of monuments to questions of heritage preservation and urban identity. Participants work independently or collaboratively during the second and third weeks, integrating their research with the on-site learning experience. The program culminates on 2 July with student presentations, where each project is shared and discussed in a collegial academic setting, followed by a closing reception celebrating the completion of the course.

All participants receive an official transcript and certificate of attendance from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
