Περίληψη

This paper examines cases of humour that have been marked as “offensive” (by addressees/audiences), in an approach that separates the utterance from the speaker. Taking stand-up comedians as a main case-study, the analysis focuses on the life-cycle of jokes, from being uttered in a live-performance context to entering the public sphere, where they become the subject of controversy. The matter of original (a priori) intention of the joke-teller will be put under question, also considering the extent and circumstances in which a speaker (comedian, in this case) can be held accountable for the offense that a joke can cause.
